History of Our Chapter
The idea to create the chapter began because Alta Dunn and Saundra Teclaw used to drive to meetings of the Nation's Capital Chapter together. They kept thinking it was a long way to go. At that time chapters had to be at least 50 miles apart. They began investigating and got permission to organize the chapter. The rest is history!
The Chesapeake Bay Decorative Painters began in the fall of 1989 with a steering committee composed of Saundra Teclaw, Shirley Anderson, Ruth Baldwin, Alta Dunn, Lucy Jo Wirth, Sally Schlinning, and Jo Aldrich.
The first organizational meeting was held at the home of Saundra Teclaw where the first meeting date and place was determined.
The first meeting was held January 10, 1990 at North County Library. The committee had hoped for at least 10 people to show up, however, they were pleasantly surprised when 65 actually attended.
The first officers were:
President – Saundra Teclaw
Program Coordinator – Shirley Anderson
Membership – Alta Dunn and Jo Aldrich
Secretary – Sally Schlining
Treasurer – Ruth Baldwin
In January, 1991 the first birthday Banquet was held at Ruth Baldwin's Church in Millersville. A tradition that continues even today.
The first Sail-Away was held off Dorsey Road in March of 1991. Sally Schlinning was the first chairman.
In May, 1991 the club became an official affiliated chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters in Salt Lake City.
In the spring of 1991 CBDP held its first seminar.
The chapter continues to be a thriving, active group with members from Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia and Delaware.
If you'd like to find out more about our Chapter, please be our guest at one of our meetings and share our passion for decorative painting.
